Position of the Civic Association “DOM POLSKI” on the violation of fundamental human rights by soldiers of the Russian Federation in Ukraine. Referring to our position of 28 February 2022 on the military operations in Ukraine, condemning the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, we cannot remain silent when all the principles of conducting military operations are violated by the aggressor’s troops. The use of types of weapons prohibited by international conventions to which the Russian Federation is also a party, and especially terror against civilians
and murders of defenseless people, especially women and children, the destruction of cultural and religious objects, bear all the hallmarks of war crimes under international law.

The escalation of the conflict and the visible selectivity of activity opposing this process mean that we see an increasing discrepancy between the generally proclaimed slogans and the actual activity of significant political forces not only in the European Union, but also outside it. This apparent lack of action is an actual action in favor of the aggressor. We feel very clearly that the previously proclaimed slogans of increasing the role of civil society in public life have become mere empty words in political pragmatics. Despite this feeling of disregard for the voice of society, gathered around many non-governmental organizations, especially by the institutions of the European Union, we do not cease our activities, in various forms, to help those affected by this war, and to loudly express our opposition to acts of unjustified and inhuman brutality committed against civilians.

Expressing our protest, we call on international institutions to act effectively to stop this violence and to judge it. In this regard, we support the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Poland, and as Poles we are proud of the attitude of the Polish society and its sacrifice for the victims of this conflict seeking shelter in our country.
